I've been taking an oil painting class at the Fitchburg Art Museum with Alex Farquharson. I've used acrylics and watercolors but I've never really used oils before. It's a lot of fun and I'm learning a lot about color theory. Although I keep trying to hit the undo button! This is my first painting. I didn't think it turned out too bad. I'm not so sure about my second painting :)

Okay just one more spring photo. A pair of robins have made a nest in the shrub outside out front door. We didn't realize they were until just a few days ago. But I don't think the three chicks in the nest are very old. We've been trying to leave them alone but it's hard not to take a peek every once in a while. And today I couldn't resist snapping a photo this little guy enjoying a nap in the warm sun.

I haven't been blogging much lately. Work has been crazy busy and then add to that all the spring gardening chores (I've got a pile of mulch the size of a VW Beetle in my driveway), the house work, baseball practices, ballet, cooking, grocery shopping, doctor appointments... Ugh!
But I did want to show just one pick. My tree peonies are blooming two weeks earlier than usual this year. Here is the first bloom of the season. I have lots of bushes in all different colors, but this candy striped one is my favorite. I like to cut the blossoms and bring them inside because they fade quickly in the hot sun. As you can see tree peony blossoms are larger then traditional peonies. I put a Sharpie next to the vase so you could have an idea of how big these puppies are. One flower can make a whole bouquet by itself.
